The „Cusanus-Haus“ is a student residence with various room sizes, ideal for students coming to the Saarland universities from Germany or abroad.
The house is located on Saaruferstraße in Saarbrücken and is very centrally located. You can easily reach the busses to the university and also shopping is no problem, because the shopping street Bahnhofsstraße“ is only 5 minutes feet walk away! If you own a car you can get directly to the motorway (regardless of whether you are heading towards Mannheim/Kaiserslautern or Luxembourg/France).
The student residence is located near the Saar and it is less than 5 minutes‘ walk to the city centre and the main railway station is also within a 10-minute walk. However, if you don’t want to walk and would rather take the bus, you can catch the buses to the university, the university of applied sciences or the main station at the next stop (directly on Saaruferstraße). At the end of this blog, you can see a short video which will show you how you can get to the bus station.
In Eisenbahnstraße, which is right next to Saaruferstraße, there are pharmacies, bakeries, more bus stops, the Sparkasse headquarters, cafés, restaurants, Hermes PaketShop, hairdresser and a Tedi. So nothing is missing. Alspo, for party-lovers: the clubs are all in the city centre and can be reached on foot in less than 10 minutes.
The building has 6 floors and there are rooms facing the city and rooms overlooking a backyard. Each floor has a communal kitchen, which also divides the hallway in the middle. To the left and right there are showers and toilets. The showers can be locked, toilets too, of course.
Life in the residence is very quiet and there are different students from all over the world.
Unfortunately, there is no W-Lan from the house that you can book. You receive Kabel Deutschland. Suggestion: if you agree with your neighbour, you can share the wi-fi and thus also the costs.
Sleeping: the curtains are very translucent. So, if you are quickly woken up by the light, you’d better get yourself another sleeping mask. 🙂
The dormitory itself is not very modern, and the furniture also looks old and is partly made of metal or light wood, which does not create a very cosy atmosphere. However, it must be said that this is a matter of taste and can have a different effect on each person.
