St. Johann Town Hall and surrounding area in Saarbrücken

Rathaus Saarbrücken

The St. Johann Town Hall in Saarbrücken, which was built between 1897 and 1900, is characterised by its neo-Gothic style and the 54-metre-high tower. Every day at 3:15 p.m. and 7:19 p.m. a carillon sounds in the state capital, which is made up of 19 bells of different sizes.

The front of the building is decorated with sandstone figures. Newlyweds are often photographed on the steps of the front.

The Tourist Information is also located in the town hall. It is open from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm. The Tourist Information regularly offers guided tours of the 54-metre-high tower of St. Johann Town Hall.

Gastronomy

The so-called Ratskeller is located in the historic town hall. The restaurant with German-regional cuisine can seat about 270 guests. The Ratskeller also has a bistro and standing area.

The food on offer is characterised by German-regional cuisine. Whether fish dishes, hearty classics, crisp salads, tapas or tarte flambée – the offer is large and varied. A wide selection of drinks, which include regional beers and wines, round off the menu.

Surrounding stops and surroundings

The bus stop Rathaus and the Saarbahn stop Johanneskirche are located on site.

The town hall is located in the St. Johann district and is not far from the St. Johanner Markt. The shopping street, located in Bahnhofstraße, is only a few minutes‘ walk away. The Nauwieser Viertel with its bars, cafés and restaurants is also in the direct vicinity and easily accessible on foot.

The citizens‘ office is also located in the immediate vicinity. Appointments at Bürgeramt City, for example for re-registration, can be booked online.
