The Saarbrücken City Library has existed since 1924 and offers a wide range of media. In addition, events are offered, projects and actions to promote language, reading and media competence. The city library has free Wi-Fi, seminar rooms, a gaming area, a reading café and plenty of space to work, learn and browse.

Location

The city library is located directly in Saarbrücken’s city center next to the Bürgeramt. It is centrally located at St. Johanna Markt and between the town hall and Bahnhofsstraße, the main shopping street. The location is therefore ideal for reaching the entire city center on foot.

Traffic Connection

In the immediate vicinity is the bus stop „Rathaus“ and the streetcar stop of the Johanniskirche. From there, streetcars leave every minute in the direction of Lebach and Saargemünd (France). There are regular buses within 10 minutes to the htw saar and 5 minutes further to Saarland University.

Opening Hours

The City Library is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Lending periods and fees

For adults the annual fees are 20 EUR and one-way tickets for children and teenagers up to the age of 18 are free of charge. Students get a discount and pay 17 EUR annually. In addition, for 8 EUR you can get a one-way ticket for a period of use of 3 months and for 2 EUR a day pass for on-site use.

Additional Information

A total of around 150,000 media are available, such as novels, films and magazines, including media in English, Arabic and French.
In addition, the city library offers digital media. These include: eBooks, eAudios, eMagazines and ePapers.
The library has an elevator that covers all 4 floors, making the entire building barrier-free. Last but not least, computers are offered for use and printers for a small fee of 10 cents per copy.
