The Saarland State Theatre is located in Saarbrücken, the capital of the Saarland.
There are four venues in total. The Großes Haus, which is the subject of this article, the Alte Feuerwache, the Congresshalle and sparte4. Around 700 cultural performances are staged annually. These include operas, plays, ballet performances as well as concerts. The programme changes approximately every three months and can be viewed on the homepage at https://www.staatstheater.saarland/spielplan.
The green area „Park am Theater“ separates the theatre from the Saar River. Opposite is Saarbrücken Castle, which can be reached on foot within five minutes. The Sankt Johannes Markt is about three minutes away on foot, Saarbrücken’s main railway station about 15 minutes.
The nearest bus stop is called Staatstheater and is located right next to the theatre forecourt. Bus lines 126 and 128 serve this station. The Saarbahn station Landwehrplatz can be reached within seven minutes.
The theatre has a multi-storey car park.
The auditorium offers ten wheelchair spaces in the stalls, which can be booked in advance. However, these are not available in the first and second tiers.
Students get free admission. Tickets can be collected from the advance booking office (Schillerplatz 2, 66111 Saarbrücken), opposite the Staatstheater, from three days before the desired performance. A valid student ID (+ certificate of enrolment) is required. Seat selection or reservations are not possible, but can also be purchased earlier than three days for 5€ per person.
