The Mensa Alt-Saarbrücken is a student canteen and cafeteria open Monday through Friday.
LOCATION:
The Mensa Alt-Saarbrücken is located in Building 10 of the Campus Alt-Saarbrücken. It’s very conveniently located just off Malstatter St. and a large bridge with several bus stops nearby, and it’s also across the street from the administration buildings of the HTW Saar.
In Building 10, there are also other important locations, such as the AStA office (student parliament) or the student ID verification machine.
Upon entering Building 10, the student should turn to the right, where they will immediately see a large room with many cafeteria tables.

OPENING TIMES:
The Mensa Alt-Saarbrücken is open Monday through Friday. Food can be ordered in the canteen between 11 to 14:30, and coffee and baked goods in the cafeteria from 8 to 14:30.
MENU:
According to their website, the Mensa offers students complete meals including a main course and side dish for low prices, and they also have a salad bar, a choice of desserts and a „special offer“ menu. Students can also order cold dishes such as sandwiches and snacks, or take a coffee to go with fresh-baked goods. The Mensa is run by the Studentenwerk, which means prices stay quite low (a meal with meat can be bought for around 3 Euro, and it’s even less for vegetarian options or salads) and the portions are large.

GOOD TO KNOW:
The Mensa has come under critique in recent years due to its sometimes limited selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Sometimes they can even run out of vegetarian or vegan dishes early in the day. Therefore, students who need to eat something without meat might want to arrive earlier in the day to place their orders.
After entering the Mensa, students can get a tray, pick up cutlery and enter the canteen area, where they will probably see a line of students waiting to order food. Students can then stand in line, place their order (options are usually listed above the large glass display case) and pick up their food directly from the Mensa employees.

After picking up their order, students can pay with cash or by using their student ID, if they already put credit on their account. Then they are free to sit down. The seating is directly next to the main canteen where food can be ordered, and it’s not unusual to share a large table with many other students. Don’t be afraid to say hello and ask if you can sit down – it’s normal!
After they are done with their meals, students shouldn’t forget to bring their trays back to the tray deposit and dishwashing area, where they can scrape their plates clean into the garbage and put their empty dishes for pick-up by the Mensa workers.
All in all, the Mensa Alt-Saarbrücken offers a comfortable, affordable way to eat lunch or get coffee and snacks.
