
Historical Museum Saar is a museum that presents the regional history of Saarland. The museum was founded in 1986 under the name „Regional History Museum“. In 1993, a new museum building was constructed by the architect Prof. Dr. Gottfried Böhm. And in 1994 the museum changed its name to „Historisches Museum Saar“.
The museum offers changing exhibitions on many different topics. These are located in the entrance area of the museum, as can be seen in the photo.
But there are also permanent exhibitions showing life in the Middle Ages until the 1950s: the most important periods are the Middle Ages, the Empire (1870-1914), the First World War (1914-1918), the 1920s, the Second World War: Nazi period/ Gestapo cell (1935-1945) and finally the 1950s. In addition, the museum offers the possibility to visit the underground castle.

The Historical Museum of the Saarland is located next to Saarbrücken Castle and opposite the Old Town Hall.
It is quite easy to reach it by transportation. There are several options like :
- Car: there are many paid parking lots,
- Saarbahn (bus): the lines 108, 105 und 121,
- Deutsch Bahn: from the main station to Schlossplatz with bus lines 105 or 108 in the direction of Eschberg Tilsiter Straße/Klinikum Saarbrücken about 7 minutes.
It’s a 20 minute walk from the central station.
The bus stop is located directly in front of the castle.
